Florida Solar & Air provides innovative energy efficient solutions to homes in Southern Florida. Our hurricane impact-resistant windows meet the most stringent code requirements for hurricane-force winds and flying debris. But impact windows do more than protect your home against hurricanes, they save energy costs and provide year-round security against thieves and intruders. It's continuous, 24/7 protection. Impact-resistant glass is comprised of two panes of glass bonded together with a special interlayer of clear polyvinyl butyral (PVB). A combination of this glass and vinyl frames provides amazing protection that can withstand blow after blow by a nine-pound, 2 x 4 beam traveling at 34 miles per hour, followed by hurricane-force winds. Not only do our windows qualify for the $1500 energy tax credit, they significantly reduce heating and cooling costs. Studies have shown that over 40% of a home's annual energy is consumed by windows. Our windows are twice as efficient as those manufactured just ten years ago, and 40% more efficient than products manufactured using common building code guidelines. During the major hurricanes that hit the southeast in 2004-2005, there were no reported home failures of impact windows and doors. However, there were a great many failures associated with plywood protection, and a number of homes failed that had shutters protecting the windows, primarily due to faulty installation.
