The Department of Energy (DOE) is awarding a total of $60 million to a number of organizations to help bring down the costs of solar through further innovations. This financial investment is part of the SunShot Initiative, which has traditionally supported solar panel manufacturers in the past. Most of this round of funding is going to other areas of the solar industry, however, to support things like grid integration, hardware reduction and education.
Home builders can now take advantage of SolarCity’s zero down financing program. The company has made solar accessible to more than 57,000 customers in the country though its solar lease and power purchase agreements. For years individual homeowners had the option to get solar with a zero down solar lease. Home builders could only integrate solar into new homes with a full prepay plan.
