Nevada Solar Power Plant Receives Federal Grant

The Obama administration announced a $2.9 million grant to the Acciona Company from Spain for expanding its Boulder City Nevada Solar Power Plant The grant for Acciona comes in lieu of the tax credit the company would have received for expanding its Boulder City Solar Plant reports the Las Vegas Sun.The Acciona Company expanded the plant, adding 40 solar troughs This plant has sparked interest in large scale renewable energy development across the country as stated in the Las Vegas Sun.

According to the Acciona website, “Acciona’s Nevada Solar One is an environmentally friendly, renewable utility-scale power solution that creates power with zero carbon emissions. The 400 acre, 64 megawatt plant harnesses solar energy to power more than 14,000 homes every year.  It is the third largest solar power plant in the world. Nevada Solar One has the potential to compete directly with conventional fossil fuel powered technologies”.
