John McNicholas, Owner/President of Key Power Services, Inc., has been designing, installing and maintaining PV systems since 1996. John started Key Power in 2001, and has held a FL Solar Contractor license since 2003. He is a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners Certified Solar PV Installer ™ (NABCEP), one of only 15 in Florida, and 936 nationwide.
David Schuss, VP of Operations, has been with the firm since 2006. David has years of Logistics and Operations experience with large distributors/manufacturers. He is fully trained in AutoCad software, and all our system schematics and permits are prepared in-house.
John and David have Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) PV Installation class certification, and all our staff regularly attend dealer and manufacturer training to stay abreast of new technology and best practices for installation processes.
Till recently, the bulk of our business has been building off-grid PV systems on islands without utilities on the Gulf Coast of SW FL. These systems power homes small and large, from old 12 volt cottage systems, to massive 48 volt inverters/battery banks, that in conjunction with generator backup, power complex, automated systems using the latest technologies. One of our systems was showcased on the cover of Home Power magazine in the April/May 2005 edition, accompanied by a nine page article John personally authored.
As interest in Grid-Tie systems accelerated due to the inception of the FL Solar Incentive program in 2006, Key Power was one of the first companies to receive approval from the Florida Solar Energy Center for a system design, which is listed on their web site.
In contrast with some local firms that are actually solar hot water and pool heating specialists attempting to enter the electrical PV market, we specialize only in PV systems, and do not perform any solar thermal system installations, although we are licensed to. Should your project include a thermal application, we can partner with a solar thermal professional such as Stilwell Solar at (239) 566-7906 to properly coordinate activities and provide a seamless successful project implementation.
Our electrical contractor partner, Colwell Electric at (239) 253-9779, works closely with us and is cognizant of the special requirements for residential and commercial PV systems.
Key Power has done residential retrofit and new construction PV projects, and understands the various requirements of a new build project, having worked with numerous General Contractors and Roofing Contractors. We have performed grid-tie installations in the City of Naples, Naples, Isles of Capri, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, Boca Grande and Placida.
