KTC started manufacturing operations in 1984 making impact modifier, Kane Ace B, for the plastics industry. Major additions to this plant occurred in 1987 and 1993, making it the largest modifier plant in the world. Kaneka Texas Corporation (KTC) was founded in 1982 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kaneka Corporation, Japan.

In 1990 the production of expanded polyolefins, Eperan, began. This was one of the first plants to eliminate the use of Freon in the expansion process. This facility has more than doubled in size since 1990. There is also a bumper molding plant located in Jackson, Michigan. Also in 1990 production of polyimide film, KTC Apical, began at this site. The capacity of this plant has also increased significantly since that time. This operation, Apical, started as a joint venture between Kaneka Corporation and Allied Signal but has since become Allied Apical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kaneka Corporation.
