Solar-powered lights with motion sculptures are one of those gifts for dad or for a kid that are cool and functional. These pieces start at around $40, so they won’t break the bank.

The solar-powered Airplane Ride Motion Sculpture Lamp is one example. Multiple versions of solar-powered lights and sculptures exist, and you can find some that will power a wire-sculpture bike rider, a Ferris wheel and more.

In the airplane light and sculpture, the planes are connected to a carousel, which is powered by a small solar panel. They rotate as light hits the solar panel. The solar panel can be pointed at a window or, if there’s no sun, it can be pointed at the plug-in lamp.
