The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) offers renewable incentives for Mississippi residents who wish to become Generation Partners. They can enroll in the Green Power Switch (GPS) program and sell their energy back to the Mississippi energy grid at a competitive rate.
For property owners who have a solar PV system that produces a minimum output of 500 watts and up to a maximum output of 50 kilowatts, TVA will credit you for 100 percent of your energy at retail rate plus $0.12 per kilowatt hour.
The premium is only offered for the first 10 years a system is in operation. After that, the customer receives only a credit for the retail rate of the power.
If a qualifying renewable system produces more energy than the customer consumes, the excess credits will be paid out either monthly or annually at the discretion of the power company.
Anyone who is new to the program can apply for a $1,000 rebate for the installation of a renewable energy system.
The goal of the Generation Partners GPS program is to reach an overall capacity of 200 megawatts through the collective support of GPS members. As of October 2009, there are 91 distributors involved in the Generation Partners.
