The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) offers renewable incentives where Mississippi residents who wish to become Generation Partners can enroll in the Green Power Switch (GPS) program and sell their energy back to the Mississippi energy grid at a competitive rate.
For property owners who have a solar PV system that produces a minimum output of 500 watts and up to a maximum output of 200kW, TVA will credit you for 100 percent of your energy at a rate of $0.12 per kilowatt hour on top of the retail electricity rate of $0.03 per kilowatt hour on top of the retail electricity rate for wind, low-impact hydro, and biomass.
TVA will compensate you in the form of a credit on your monthly energy bill where your home or business is located over a 10 year contract period.
If a qualifying renewable system produces more energy than what the customer consumes payment for, the excess credits will be paid out either monthly or annually at the discretion of the power company. On top of that, anyone who is new to the program can apply for a $1,000 incentive that can help offset the start-up costs of investing in a renewable energy system.
The goal of the Generation Partners GPS program is to reach an overall capacity of 200 megawatts through the collective support of GPS members. As of October 2009, there are 91 distributors involved in the Generation Partners.
