This sales tax incentive allows Idaho residents to completely deduct the sales tax value of solar energy equipment, although in order to qualify, the equipment must be capable of generating 25 kilowatts (kW) of energy, meaning that while it may be practical for some businesses, some residential solar power systems may not qualify.
This rebate requires that you pay sales tax for the purchase of the equipment, and you must also provide documentation that the solar power system generates at least 25 kW of electricity. This documentation must come from a public utilities company, a cooperative utility, a municipal utility, or the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. After that, you can file a request with the Idaho State Tax Commission to receive a refund, as long as it is within three years of when you installed the equipment.
