Stellar Solar hosts solar and EV BBQ

Stellar Solar hosts solar and EV BBQSolar enthusiasts got to rub elbows with electric car and motorcycle owners at a meet-up and barbeque on March 27 in San Diego.

The event was hosted by Stellar Solar, a San Diego solar installer that does residential, commercial and government solar, and EVs.

Stellar Solar was voted the best solar company in San Diego in 2011.

The vehicle lovers gathered in Stellar Solar’s showroom, which has an impressive view of the solar trees in the parking lot, to watch a presentation, socialize, and learn about eco-friendly products and services.

"In our minds, solar power, electric vehicles, and hybrid technology are all part of the same conversation,” said Michael Powers, Stellar Solar’s vice president of sales and marketing.

The event showcased the Zero S motorcycle, courtesy of Motoworld and Justin Bergy. Although impressive in many aspects, the Zero S does not currently have any solar-powered features.

“This event was a great way to bring together a large group of like-minded people that includes EV, hybrid and solar enthusiasts. There are thousands of hybrid owners out there that can benefit from interacting with EV owners and this is a perfect forum for that. Hosting the event at the Stellar Solar showroom next door to the amazing SDG&E Innovation Center makes it even more exciting,” said Peder Norby, one of the only test drivers for the BMW ActiveE and a San Diego native.

Norby powers his ActiveE exclusively with solar.

Norby is no stranger to solar power and electric cars.

He built the Herons House with his wife and family in 2006. The house is entirely powered by the sun, and cooled without a conventional air conditioner. In just six years, their solar power system has paid for itself in energy savings and now costs the family just $35 per year for all the energy needed to power the home and cars.
