Breaking news: Solar Decathlon home named

The Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon finally has a new home, or should we say, has the same home, kinda.

Yesterday afternoon the department announced that the Solar Decathlon’s new home is the National Mall, where it is was originally—except it’s at a different location on the mall.

The decathlon, which pits the finest designs for solar-powered homes against each other in real world tests, was originally held on the mall, in sight of the U.S. Capitol. It will remain on the mall, but out of view of the Capitol and near the Potomac River.

Earlier this year, DOE and the National Park Service said the event compromised the NPS’ recovery plans for the park and said the event, scheduled for this fall, would be held elsewhere. But it appears that protests from the contestants and some Congress members prevailed.

Check back with Clean Energy Authority today for more information about the announcement.
