Fate of Colorado solar rebate still unknown

Xcel Energy and Colorado solar groups—including COSEIA, SEIA, and individual installation companies—met with the Public Utilities Commission to attempt to reach a consensus about Xcel's Solar Rewards Program, which was reduced, then completely frozen, three weeks ago.

After a heated rally at the state Capitol, and a long hearing last week at the Public Utilities Commission, all parties involved are hoping an agreement can be made soon.

Despite the likelihood of a settlement, brokered between the parties, the commission decided to have a final hearing next Friday, March 18. However, the commission left the possibility open for Xcel and other parties to submit a settlement proposal on Tuesday, March 15.

Commission Chairman Ron Binz said that whether the parties come to a consensus or not, the hearing on March 18 will be the final hearing.

Binz addressed the groups.

"It's in your best interest to settle," said Binz. "We think we're going to enter an order on Friday, ending this case. There will be a result, in some sense."

Check back for updates on a possible settlement next week.
