EcoFocus showcases eco-friendly gadgets

Chrystal Dailey started her online gadget store, Eco Geek Living, because she loves solar-powered and other gadgets using new and green technology and knew she wasn’t the only one.

More than 500 media have already said they would attend the EcoFocus event in New York on April 19 where Dailey will present her newest gadgets along with numerous other companies from Cisco and Dell to T-Mobile, Panasonic and LG.

The event is an opportunity for companies to unveil their newest and greenest innovations in everything from energy-efficient electronics, appliances and lighting to recycled and renewable products.

“We have some really cool stuff that we’re going to showcase at EcoFocus,” Dailey said.

She didn’t want to reveal too much about some of the items that are so new she won’t even have prototypes of some to show in time for the event.

But one that Dailey is excited about is a solar-powered radio.

“It will be very popular among people going to the beach,” she said. “You don’t even have to load batteries. It will be sitting out in the sun all day.”

The radio will be able to stream music with blue tooth technology and can play from an iPod doc, she said.

She’ll also showcase some new solar generators and a number of other technologies she wouldn’t talk about until the event.

Dailey launched Eco Geek Living in 2007 when solar gadgets were just beginning to gain popularity. The site has become increasingly popular in recent years, she said.

Many of her customers come to her looking for solutions that will carry them through third-world countries and emergency situations. And those have been her customers from the beginning.

But as the technology is becoming more mainstream and as prices have come down, Dailey is seeing more people buy items for camping and hiking.

“One of our top products is our solar string lights,” she said.

They sell well in the spring when people are decorating their gardens and during the holidays, she said.
