Denver Company Tests Thin Film Solar Panels

The Denver based company ProLogis, an international distribution and warehouse provider, is using warehouse roof space in Denver to test different solar panels.  The company already has installed panels generating 24.6 megawatts on 32 of its buildings in France, Spain, Germany, Japan and throughout the U.S.

Solar Panels from seven different thin-film manufactures (Mia Sole, UniSolar, Xunlight, GS-Solar, First Solar, and Solyndra) and one monocrystalline silicon cell manufacturer (Sunvia) will be compared against each other to see which is the most efficient.

“We think it is a good opportunity,” said Solyndra spokesman Dave Miller.  “ProLogis has a lot of roofs and we have a rooftop techhonology.”  Solyndra solar cells are cylinders that can catch sunlight from above and reflect it from below.

“By adding solar panels," said ProLogis chief executive officer, Walt Rakowich, “We can take a no-income product, a roof, and turn that into an asset.  "The current trial might go on for a year or two," Rakowich said, "and we will continue to take a look at new technologies.”
